THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHT-TIME

An immersive experience that challenges perceptions and opens up dialogue about difference, acceptance, and understanding.

The William Daniel Mills Theatre Company

Renowned for its thought-provoking and innovative productions and their focus on ensuring theatre is accessible and inclusive for a diverse group of professionals and students. The new production, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, is a testament to this reputation. Adapted from Mark Haddon’s novel, with Director Edmarie Montes, Assistant Director Dee Quintero, and Producer Nick Bazo, the play presents a unique perspective on life through the eyes of a teenager with an extraordinary mind.

The Incident

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a captivating story that revolves around 15-year-old Christopher Boone. Exceptional at mathematics but finding daily social interactions challenging, Christopher lives a life of structured routine. The narrative begins with a startling event: the discovery of his neighbor’s dog, Wellington, killed with a garden fork. Christopher becomes a suspect, but he takes on the role of detective to clear his name, embarking on an adventure that turns his orderly world upside down.

Christopher

Christopher stands out as a character for his unique view of the world. Diagnosed with an unspecified condition, he perceives the world with a literal and logical mindset that struggles with social cues and metaphors. This perspective is central to the play’s narrative and themes, offering audiences a glimpse into a mind that processes the world differently.

Experience

Experience the adventure that Christopher must navigate to solve the mystery surrounding Wellington’s death. However, as Christopher delves deeper, the story reveals layers of family secrets and launches Christopher on a journey of personal discovery. The investigation propels him beyond the safe confines of his neighborhood, challenging his perceptions and courage in a world that often feels overwhelming and chaotic.

At its core, the play explores themes of truth, family dynamics, and reality’s subjective nature. Christopher’s journey is a metaphor for the quest for truth and understanding in a complex world. The recurring motifs of logic, order, and the vast, starry night sky serve to contrast and highlight the chaotic nature of human relationships and emotions.
